Semmelweis University Facilities

(DETAILS on the bottom of the page!)
There are four main areas where Semmelweis University has its facilities:

  • By the Klinikák metro stop (on the blue metro) – This is the biggest area and is rightfully named Klinikák (clinics).
  • The NET building at Nagyvarad square – the third tallest building in downtown Budapest. It is in the process of being renovated and one of the most visited buildings by 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students.
  • The brand new main building in the Tuzolto street – This is simply AMAZING! Reminds me of my university in the US. Houses most of the 1st and 2nd year subjects and is as close to a main campus building one can get at Semmelweis University.
  • The old secretariat building at Ulloi boulevard 26 – This used to be where the English and German secretariat had their offices, but they have both moved to the new main building in Tuzolto utca. Still, Pathology Dept 1 (3rd year), Ob/Gyn (5th year) and Internal Medicine Dept 2 (3rd-5th year) are still there.

Details about the buildings

NET Building at Nagyvarad Ter

This is the high-rise building at Nagyvarad ter, in which you will have Biology and Immunology. Also, some students may have Informatics here.
Later on, Pathophysiology (3rd year), Microbiology and Pharmacology (both 4th year) will all be held here.

Klinikák

As the name indicates (clinics) there are several clinical departments right around the area of the Klinikak metro stop (blue line).
You will have Anatomy/Histology/Embryology here in the first year and Physiology here in the second year.
Later on, you will have several clinical courses here as well – Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ear/Nose/Throat, Radiology.

For Anatomy/Histology/Embryology, the building is on the opposite side of Ulloi ut (when you exit the metro).

The brand new main building in Tuzolto utca (metro stop Klinikák)

Hosts almost ALL the 1st and 2nd year classes (except Anatomy, Histology and Embryology – a big subject that is across the street, in the Department of Anatomy).

Other facilities

Gym facilities

Every other week you are forced to travel a bit to get to the gym facilities.
You need to take the blue metro line to Pöttöyös utca. From there you need to walk about 500 meters south and then 200 meters straight east. You will see a large indoor athletics facility, with a football field and basketball court outside.

First Aid building

During the second semester of the first year, you will have First Aid every other week.
It is a bit hard to find the building, but I will make a map and post it here by the end of this semester!

Old facilities, no longer in use:

Puskin by Astoria (everything has been moved to the new main building in Tuzoloto utca)

This is the closest thing you will get to a “campus” for medical students in Budapest.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and the Department of Biophysics are located here.
All your Biophysics and Chemistry classes will be held here (lecture and practice/lab).

Physiology department by Klinikák (now moved to the new main building in Tuzolto utca)
Physiology is on the same side as the metro stop, but the entrance is on the other side of the huge “courtyard”, who’s wall you see right in front of you as you exit the metro.
