Photography

Photography is a passion of mine. I remember getting my first digital camera when I was a student in the US.
It was an Olympus Camedia D510Z:

I had that for at least four years and it has captured a lot of great memories.
At the time I also bought a low-end Pentax SLR (not digital SLR). I didn’t use that camera even remotely close to as often as my Olympus.

My first high quality digital camera was the Fujifilm S7000:

Eventually I switched to Nikon D70, my first digital SLR.
It came with the classic 18-70mm kit lens, which produced some really great images.

I switched to D80 a bit later. It was a great improvement over the D70, but the really big change came with my latest upgrade….

The D300s. Love it!

Camera – D300s

My current camera is a Nikon D300s digital SLR.

Panasonic Lumix LX3

My travelmate. This camera came out in 2008 and the LX5 came out in 2010, I felt the upgrade wasn’t worth it and I’m still happy with my LX3.
I bought the LX3 in Budapest (during my neurology rotation: Neurology rotation day 9) and I’m very pleased with its performance.

Lenses for the D300s

I currently have five lenses:

  1. Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6
  2. Sigma 30mm f/1.4
  3. Nikkor 50mm f/1.8
  4. Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro 1:1
  5. Nikkor 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR II

And here they are:

Sigma 10-20 mm f/4-5.6

This lens is a lot of fun! Highly recommended.

Here is one sample:

Trip to Israel

Sigma 30 mm f/1.4

Has the f/1.4 compared to the 1.8 of the Nikkor, as well as the extra 20 mm. But you know what, I like the 50 mm better.

Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8

This is a really cheap lens (around € 100), Nikon also has a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, but that’s three-four times the price.
It has amazing depth-of-field. Perfect for portraits. It also challenges you as a photographer, because you have a set field to work with.

Nikkor 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II

A nice lens with great range, but the build is so-so.
